If you know me personally or from my blog, I am a retired teacher who loves to crochet. I taught junior high and high school students for 30 years. Making connections was my job. I taught computer, business and culinary classes. I always tried to deliver my lessons in a fun way which allowed me to connect with my students. I loved teaching my Culinary classes because working with food, preparing meals with others and eating food is a very personal and connecting activity!

I’ve also realized that now that I have retired, making connections with others is still very important. When I retired, my husband and I moved across country from California to South Carolina. We knew a few people there. My daughter lives there with her husband so that helped so much but I had to make some new connections.

I joined the Fiber Artists of Rock Hill group. I made some very special friends. We were a small group but we met every week. Very talented Fiber Artists in that group!

My daughter, Sam, also a teacher, started a book club of which I was a member of and I loved connecting with her group of great women. We’ve read some books that I may have not read without this group, (Pretty Girls by Karen Slaughter)😱, but have read some good books too.

We are now living back in CA, and even though we are back in the same area we lived for over 20 years, making connections is once again very important. I have visited the school I taught at and had lunch with a few of my teacher friends. I’ve been getting together with some of my dear friends having lunch, doing yoga and maybe even get the ol’ Bunco group together again. We’ve been able to visit with our kids, and grandkids and my mom. Connecting, connecting, connecting.

Crocheting has given me a chance to connect in a special way. Making something by hand and giving it as a gift is a wonderful way to show someone how much you care. I have made blankets for everyone in my family, beanies for all the grandkids, and we have a new granddaughter on the way, expected in August, and she will have many of her grandma’s crocheted projects, (not to be revealed until June 😊). I have also decided to try and connect with others by selling some of my crocheted projects, all made with love, of course. This is in the works, so stay tuned.

To end this post today, I wanted to share one of the easiest and sweetest ways to connect through crochet, and that is making some “Worry Worms”, attach a note and leave it in random locations around your neighborhood, store or park and make someone’s day. I joined the Facebook Group, Random Acts of Crochet Kindness USA, and when your worry worm has been found, hopefully the one who found it will take a selfie with it and post it to the group. It’s so fun to see how such a small gesture can make someone feel good. Here is a picture of some I have made with a link to a YouTube video with directions to make them.

Have a wonderful day!
