Football Season 2023 has begun and I love it. My love of football has been a part of my family for a very long time. My dad played football in high school and was an avid USC (University of Southern California) and Los Angeles Rams fan as long as I could remember. His weekends were spent watching football and playing golf.
My husband was a baseball player, played in the minor league system for 6 years for the St. Louis Cardinals. His father played minor league baseball as well. So when we had our kids, we figured baseball was going to be their sport. But we were wrong. Football soon took over. Youth football, high school football, college football and the NFL all came to be important areas of our family’s life.
The whole time our boys played football, from the time they were 8 years old, through the high school years and in college, football was number one. We made lifetime friends along the way at each level and for that we will always be grateful for football.
Our oldest son, Matt, played in the NFL for 14 seasons as a quarterback and backup quarterback for the Panthers, the Dolphins and finally for the Kansas City Chiefs! Matt was Patrick Mahome’s backup QB when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in February 2020!!! The whole family went to Miami for the Superbowl and it was an amazing weekend. One I will never forget.
So now, when no one in our family is actually playing football, it continues to be my favorite sport. I am a Chiefs fan forever, and still quietly root for the Dolphins and Panthers. We also root for the Oregon State Beavers (my oldest and youngest boys played for the Beavs) and Hart High School always has our heart ❤️.
